Linda D. Wheeler, 62, of Athens, PA passed away unexpectedly on Friday, September 12, 2014 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA. She was born on May 5, 1952 in Elmira, NY the daughter of the late Fred W. and Arlene H. Harris Wheeler. Linda was a Crossing Guard for many years with the Athens Area School District. She was an avid bowler and enjoyed computer card games, especially canasta tournaments. Most of all, Linda loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, family, and friends. She especially enjoyed spending time outside surrounded with family and friends around their bonfires. She was very active in her grandchildren's sporting and school events. Linda was a member of Emory Baptist Chapel, Waverly, NY and the Ft. Sullivan Post American Legion, Athens. Linda had an infectious smile and laugh that will be missed by her family and friends. She is predeceased by her grandson John Barton, brother Fred Wheeler and sister Theresa Wheeler. Linda is survived by fiancé Jim Carney of Athens, PA, children Michelle and Steven Johnston of Sayre, PA, Rebecca Wheeler of Sayre, PA, Alisa and Brad Chilson of Athens Twp., PA, and Tiffany Barton and David Talada of Athens, PA, grandchildren who adoringly called her Gma Ashley Blair, Troy Blair, Destiny Chilson, DJ Meyers, Holden Chilson, Savanna Barton, Trevor Meyers, Arwen Miller, Aviana Barton, Mike Barton, Jeff Barton, Angelina Barton, and Jesse Barton, brother Robert W. Wheeler of Sayre, PA, sister Mary Wheeler of Scranton, PA, several aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, special cousin Donna Burr, and dear friend Pixie Johnston. Linda will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, September 18, 2014 at 6pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA with the Rev. Gary Culver officiating. The family has requested that all those attending wear purple honoring Linda's favorite color.
