Obituary of Mary Etta Smith

Mary Etta Smith, 97, of Milan, PA passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 2, 2014 at the Robert Packer Hospital. She was born on July 12, 1917 in Springfield Twp., Bentley Creek, PA the daughter of the late William W. and Anna Wilson Hicks. Mary Etta drove school bus for Athens Area School District for 46 years, before retiring. She enjoyed shopping, gardening, collecting Hummel's, cooking, and entertaining people in her home. Mary Etta loved spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was member of the Milan United Methodist Church. She is predeceased by her husband Adelbert "Del" Smith in 2000, sister Georgianna Bailey, and brothers Lawrence Hicks and Lester Hicks. Mary Etta is survived by her children June and Paul Sargeant of Wetona, PA, Roy and Barbara Smith of Frankfort, NY, and Lester Smith of Ulster, PA, grandchildren Valorie Mulcahy, Martin and Diane Lane, Audrey and Steve Hamlin, Dan and Maggie Lane, and Brian and Amanda Smith, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Sunday, October 5, 2014 from 2pm – 4pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA and on Monday, October 6, 2014 from 10am – 11am at the Athens United Methodist Church, 118 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the Church at 11am with the Rev. Lynn Ensign of Mt. Pisgah Wesleyan Church officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA at the convenience of the family.
