Obituary of Albert A. Vanderpool

Albert “Al” A. Vanderpool, 74, of Athens, PA passed away on October 10, 2014 at the Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA following an extended illness. He was born on April 10, 1940 in Sayre, PA the son of the late Lamont and Catherine Wells Vanderpool. Al worked at Valley Cities Gas in Sayre, PA prior to his retiring. He loved all animals, especially his dogs, cats, and birds. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping in many different spots. He took great pride and joy in maintaining and driving his 1989 Ford F150, always keeping it in mint condition. Al loved spending time with his family and friends and being at home, especially spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers Richard, Ernest, John and Dale Vanderpool, and a sister Gail. Al is survived by his longtime companion of 32 years, Lillian Shay at home, step-children Mary Ellen Starr and fiancé Ron Nichols of Troy, PA, Gary Shay7 and fiancé Elaine Foust of Ogdensburg, PA, Linda and Robin Potter of East Smithfield, PA, Nancy and David Palmer of East Athens, PA, Cindy Shay and Scott Morley of Athens, PA, and Candy and Thomas Hannon of Athens, PA, 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren, siblings and their spouses Paul Vanderpool and Constance Vanderpool of Sayre, PA, Lyle and Christine Vanderpool of Fort Worth, TX, Robert “Bobby” Vanderpool of Hamburg, PA, Ethel and Francis Vanderpool of Lyon Station, PA, Linda and Greg Stufflet of Fleetwood, PA, Donna of Lyon Station, PA, Doris of Kutztown, PA, and several nieces and nephews. A Gathering of friends and family will take place on Saturday, October 18, 2014 at 1pm at the Athens American Legion Post #246, 103 Public Street, Athens, PA. The family is being assisted by Jay E.
