Obituary of Wilma Nichols Horton
Wilma Nichols Horton passed away peacefully at 1:40pm on Friday, February 27, 2015 in DuBois, PA surrounded by her loving family. Wilma was the most devoted mother, wife, and grandmother and loved and cherished by her entire family for her tireless dedication to all of their lives. Wilma was an active letter writer and communicator to all of her family including her three sons, nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Wilma always gave more than she received emotionally, physical and financially.
Wilma was predeceased by her loving husband of 54 years Jack. Jack and Wilma were avid sports fans. They especially enjoyed attending the local high school events, camping, music and dancing. She graduated from East Smithfield High School and Elmira Business School. Wilma worked as a secretary for 30 years at SRU High School. Jack and Wilma were dedicated campers belonging to the Tom-Jack Indians Camping Club. She was also a member of the Federated Church of East Smithfield, the Pennsylvania Association of School of Retirees, the Good Neighbor Club, the Troy Senior Citizen Club and the Widowed Persons Group. In addition, Wilma volunteered at the Bradford County Manor.
Wilma was born on February 3, 1922 to Clayton and Elizabeth Nichols. Her husband, Jack, passed on August 6, 1996. Wilma is survived by her brother Charles Nichols of East Smithfield, her sons Terry Horton (wife Jill) of DuBois, PA, George Horton (wife Sandy) of Hamden, CT and John Anderson (wife Lynell) of Canton, PA. Wilma was the amazing grandmother of Tammy, Scott and Mandie (Terry Horton), Stacy, Kerry and Jeffrey (George Horton) and Corey, Marsha and Jamie (John Anderson). She is also survived by 16 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Christ the King Manor of DuBois, PA for theie comfort and care.
Friends and family may call on Monday, March 2, 2015 at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA from 5-7:00pm. An additional visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 3, 2015 from 1-2:00pm Funeral services will follow on Tuesday at 2:00pm at the Lowery Funeral Home.
Burial will be in Union Cemetery, East Smithfield, PA.
