Reta H. Carner Gregory, 96, of Sayre, PA passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at home following a brief illness. She was born on July 5, 1918 in Overton, PA the daughter of the late Lawrence and Mabel Baker Carner. Reta was in the last class of 10 people in the Overton School in 1934, and her whole life she wore her class ring. She was a 1936 graduate of Towanda High School. Reta graduated from the Del Kader Beauty School in 1946 and maintained her beauty license for 50 years. In her younger years, she enjoyed fishing, and she enjoyed cooking, sewing, she made over 200 hats for the OR at the hospital, baking, especially her cookies, jams, jellies, and her fudge. Reta married her husband Laverne Gregory on November 14, 1941 and they celebrated 58 years together prior to his passing. She worked at Belle Knitting, Blue Swan Mills and Sayre Lingerie for over 50 years, teaching hundreds of people to sew. Reta enjoyed traveling in her younger years to York Beach, Maine. She also bowled in several leagues and attended several NY State Bowling Tournaments. She is predeceased by her husband Laverne in 1999, brothers George, Harry, Henry, Lewis, and Gene Carner and sister Grace Schultz. Reta is survived by her son Gary Gregory of Sayre, PA, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Thursday, March 26, 2015 from 1pm – 3pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home at 3pm with the Rev. Anne Bey Canfield officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
