Obituary of Stanley Shurygailo
Stanley Shurygailo, 87, of Sayre, PA passed away on Sunday, March 22, 2015 at the Sayre Health Care Center.
He was born on April 12, 1927 in Chester, PA the son of the late Michael and Rose Hemecz Shurygailo.
Stanley was a 1945 graduate of Chester High School. From 1945 to 1946, he served in the1st Marine Division of the United States Marine Corps while overseas in China. He attended and graduated from Millersville University in 1953, obtaining a Bachelor of Science in Education. He furthered his education at Worcester Polytechnic Institute in 1961 and Northern Arizona University at Flagstaff in 1971. On November 5, 1955 he married Margaret Fecisin in New Jersey. He was employed as a Teacher with Wallington High School and Eastside High School, Paterson, NJ for 25 years, retiring in 1981. After retiring, he was employed with Mahaffy and Harder as an Engineer in Quality Control, Fairfield, NJ. Stanley was a Lifetime Member of the V.F.W. Post #1536, Sayre, and a member of the NJ Education Association and Paterson Education Association.
He is predeceased by his wife Margaret Fecisin Shurygailo, brothers Stephen and Walter Shurygailo, and sisters Lottie Smith and Stephanie Schwartz.
Stanley is survived by his son Stanley David and Lucretia Hughes Shurygailo of Mercer Island, WA, grandchildren Alexandra and Catherine Shurygailo, brother Joseph Shurygailo of Boothwyn, PA, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call on Friday, March 27, 2015 from 6pm to 8pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday March 28, 2015 at the funeral home at 11am with Father Jason Kappanadze officiating.
Burial will be in Nichols Cemetery, Nichols, NY.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society 1948 E. 3rd Street Williamsport, PA 17701.
