Kathleen A. Hughes, 64, of Sayre, PA passed away Wednesday, May 20, 2015. She was born on March 11, 1951 in Binghamton, NY the daughter of the late Raymond C. Murphy and Mother Frances Lynch Murphy. Kathleen graduated from Northeast Bradford High School and also received her BS Degree in Elementary Education from Bloomsburg University and Masters of Science in Reading from Elmira College. She was a member of Epiphany Catholic Church. She was a teacher for 36 years and taught in the Athens Area School District for 34 years, retiring in 2010. She was an avid researcher of her family genealogy. She was an enthusiastic bridge and card player. Kathleen enjoyed communicating with her friends on her computer. She enjoyed traveling and time spent in The Villages in Florida. Kathleen is predeceased by her father Raymond C. Murphy and a sister Jane Murphy. She is survived by her husband Raymond Hughes; daughter Elaine Hughes; her Mother Frances Murphy; sisters Joan Mesaris and Theresa Friloux; brother Michael Murphy; many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. Friends and Family may call on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 from 10am to 1pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral services will follow at 1:30pm at the Epiphany Catholic Church, 304 South Elmer Ave, Sayre, PA with Father Brian Wright officiating. Burial will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in her memory to the Athens or Sayre Libraries or a charity of your choice.
