Richard D. "Doc" Ferreira, 76, of Church Hill, TN, previous resident of Athens passed away on June 16, 2015 following an extended illness. Born on January 11, 1939 in Oak Bluffs, MA the son of the late Richard and Alice Sylvia Ferreira. Richard spent 25 years in the US Navy as a Medivac Doc, serving with the US Marines. He loved spending time with his family and friends. Richard loved to play Bingo with his friends. He enjoyed panning for gold. He spent a lot of time working with his hands. He was preceded in death by his wife Lynne-Marie Ferreira. Richard is survived by his children Tina and Mel Dilts of Orange Park, FL and their 2 children, Angie and Danny Headd of Church Hill, TN, Daniele and Aaron Day of Lompoc, CA and their 4 children, and Katie-Marie and Christopher Carpenter of Athens, PA and their 1 child, and great-grandchildren, 3 brothers and their spouses, 3 sisters and their spouses, and nieces, nephews, and cousins. Friends and family may call on Wednesday, June 24, 2015 from 11am – 1pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at 1pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery.
