Catherine Ann (Kate) Mahoney Kelley passed away on July 12, 2015. Kate was born on June 6, 1926 in Sayre, the daughter of Anna McKee Mahoney and Edward J. Mahoney. She turned 18 on D-day June 6, 1944, and graduated from Sayre Area High School. Kate married the love of her life, James Frederick (Fred) Kelley, on June 7, 1952 at Epiphany Church. Kate spent her life dedicated to her children and in particular the fight for the rights of her special needs child, Mary. Kate is survived by her children: Jim Kelley of New York, Joan Kelley Carney of Bellevue, WA, Lorie Kelley Petrosky (Chuck Petrosky) of Bellevue, WA; and grandchildren Maureen Smith of Sayre and Syreeta Sargent Davis (Zach Davis) of Chadds Ford, PA; and Ryan and Ben Petrosky of Bellevue, WA. Kate has four great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild each of whom she adored. She also is survived by her special dear nieces and nephews, the McMahon’s, as well as the Flanigan’s and Mahoney’s. Kate was predeceased by her husband Fred Kelley, and her daughters Theresa Kelley Smith and Mary Catherine Kelley, her son-in-law, Tim Carney. Kate was also predeceased by each of her six brothers and sisters: William, Donald, James and Edward Mahoney, Margie Mahoney McMahon, and Nancy Mahoney Flanigan. Friends and family may call on Thursday, July 16, 2015 from 12pm-1pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA 18810. Funeral Services will follow at the Funeral Home at 1pm with the Rev. Vincent Langan officiating. A private burial will be at St. James Cemetery, Waverly, NY.
