Wanda J. Berkley, 88, of Lockwood, NY died on Wednesday, October 8, 2015 at home following a brief illness. She was born on January 31, 1927 in Queens, NY the daughter of the late Michael and Wanda Byers Wolski. Wanda was a graduate of Hunter College High School in 1944, and graduated from Hunter College with a Bachelor of Arts in 1948. She received her Teacher Certificate in 1957 in Physical Health and Safety. Wanda was hired as Physical Education Teacher for Spencer-Van Etten School District on Sept. 1, 1957 in Van Etten. She became the Librarian in Oct. of 1967 and remained in that position until her retirement in June of 1986. She was also New York State United Teachers President for many years. Wanda enjoyed watching tennis. She is predeceased by her husband Bernard in 2010, sons Michael in 2001 and James in 2010, daughter Joan in 1998, and brother Michael Wolski. Wanda is survived by her children Bernard and Celeste Berkley of Lockwood, NY and Wanda and Don Foote of Lockwood, NY, grandchildren Kenneth and Miranda, Kendra, Jesse, Jeffrey, James, Catherine and Scott, Virginia, Christine, Chelsea, and Ransome, step-grandchildren Christopher and Philip, 12 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Roseann Berkley, one niece, two nephews, and dear friends Edith Henley, Veronica Schutt, and William Quinn. Friends and family may call on Sunday, October 11, 2015 from 1pm – 4pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Memorial Mass will be held on Monday, October 12, 2015 at 11am at Saint James Catholic Church, 503 Clark Street, Waverly, NY with the Rev.Peter Van Lieshout officiating.
