Obituary of Bernice Loraine Kunzman Freeman
Bernice Loraine Kunzman Freeman, 73, joined her husband of 50 years Freas Freeman, her parents, and many family members and friends in heaven on Saturday, October 10, 2015. Bernice was born on October 10, 1942 to Mrs. Margret Ellen Way Kunzman and Mr. Harold C. Kunzman in the station hospital on US Army Camp Atterbury close to Columbus, Indiana. Since her father was a soldier, Bernice and her family moved around a lot. Fortunately, she was blessed with a very large supportive family on her Mother’s side. Bernice remembered very fondly the extended time spent with her aunts, uncles, and cousins; especially Uncle Jack and Aunt Lucretia Way. The greatest gifts Bernice’s family gave her was her Christian Values and her love for her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Bernice is survived by her children Brenda Lee Bidwell, Bonnie Lee and her husband Frank Apgar, her son Jerry Freeman, and three grandsons Mikel Jacob Apgar, Seth Daniel Bidwell and Skyler Dane Bidwell. Bernice is also survived by her brother Harold Kunzman and her sister in law Sandra Kiesinger Kunzman as well as her sister Mary Young and several nieces, nephews and their families.
Bernice graduated from Curwensville High School in 1960. Trained as a secretary she worked for a while in the Pentagon. Because she didn’t enjoy big city life, Bernice returned to the Northern Tier of Pennsylvania and worked as a waitress at the Tomahawk Restaurant on Route 17. She soon met the love of her life and married Freas Freeman on February 19, 1965. Twin daughters and a son completed her family by fall of 1967. Bernice always found a way through various secretarial, retail, or light manufacturing positions to help her family to live a comfortable life no matter what challenges life brought her way. Bernice loved baseball and never missed a World Series Triple Crown and the Breeder’s Cup races were her favorite sporting events as well. She love award winning movies and the best novels and literature too. While working in housekeeping at the Robert Packer Hospital Bernice took night classes in medical terminology. She developed a passion for research and avidly pursued knowledge on many medical topics; especially those affecting herself and her family. Bernice lived a long wonderful life filled with tragedies and triumphs and met everyday reflecting God’s Love and grace.
We wish to thank the medical doctors and professionals who cared for her during the last few months of her terminal illness. We also wish to thank numerous family, friends and area churches for their visits, cards, and prayers. God Bless You All.
