Ruth E. Jones of Athens, PA passed away on Tuesday, January 19, 2016 at the Bradford County Manor, Troy, PA. She was born on August 14, 1917 in Williamsport, PA, the daughter of the late Louis K. and Minnie W. (Wilson) Ege. Ruth graduated from Williamsport High School and went on to attend college at East Stroudsburg State Teachers College, receiving her Bachelors' Degree, New York University where she received her Master's Degree in Education, and Edinboro University where she obtained her Master's Degree in Guidance Counseling. Furthering her education, she went to the University of Maine and Penn State. Prior to her retirement, she was employed as a Teacher and Guidance Counselor with the Athens Area School District. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Athens. Ruth was also a member of the Athens Area Education Association, the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the National Education Association, and the Public School Employees Retirement. Ruth held a private pilots' license and was an active member of Civil Air Patrol in the Valley for many years. Ruth was a world traveler having traveled to over 30 countries on 6 continents and was a member of the Friendship Force, an organization that conducts visitor exchanges with groups in other countries. She herself hosted guests from several countries at her home in Florida and went on several exchanges herself. In addition, she was an avid reader and loved to square dance, bowl and play cards. She is predeceased by her husband Thomas E. Jones, brother Albert Ege and sister Catherine Ege. Ruth is survived by her children Thomas Evan Jones of Athens, PA, Donald L. and Ann Jones of Brownsville, VT, Judith K. and Ray Montgomery of Fayette, AL, and Robert D. and Charee Jones of State College, PA, 6 grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. Friends and family may call on Wednesday, January 27, 2016 from 10am to 11am at the Athens Presbyterian Church, 622 ½ South Main Street, Athens, PA with the Rev. Sharon Rosso officiating.
