Charles George Schmidt, 82, of Athens, PA passed away on Wednesday, February 03, 2016 with his family by his side following a brief illness. He was born on April 1, 1933 in Manhattan, NY the son of the late Charles and Elizabeth Wersching Schmidt. Charles attended Canton High School, graduating in the Class of 1950. He enjoyed meeting with his classmates every year. Charles was a Veteran of the Air Force, serving during the Korean War. He was a Route Salesman and worked for Jewel Tea at one time, and selling Office Products. Charles was an avid baseball fan, his favorite team being the New York Yankees. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching basketball, which he played when he was in school. Charles enjoyed studying about the Art of Painting and he himself was an amateur water color artist. He loved spending time with his family. Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Edna Schmidt at home, daughter Katherine Schmidt-Johnson of Athens, PA and son Eric Schmidt of Honolulu, HI, and grandson Mathew Johnson of Athens, PA. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, February 7, 2016 at 2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Burial will be at Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, PA. Memorial donations may be made in Charles’ memory to a charity of your choice.
