Obituary of Nellie A. Bunn
Nellie A. Bunn, 95, of Athens, PA, passed away on Tuesday, June 07, 2016 at ElderWood, Waverly, following a period of declining health.
She was born on April 24, 1921 in Litchfield Twp., Sayre, PA the daughter of the late Ford E. and Alverea L. (Kinsley) Wolcott.
Nellie graduated from Athens High School, Class of 1940. Following graduation, she briefly worked as a Secretary for Riverside Press and Bird Sumner Insurance. She began her career with the Athens National Bank in 1940. Over the years, Nellie took many courses to stay current with the banking business and enabled her many opportunities. She received and diploma in Applied Banking, which included all facets of banking, including management. She also participated in many seminars including several Dale Carnegie Courses, BOCRS in Auto Service, and STRESS at Elmira College. The bank was sold to the Northern Central Bank and Nellie continued her career with them at the Athens Branch. She began as the Assistant Secretary, and in 1973 became the Assistant Branch Manager and Assistant Treasurer. After many years of faithful service in 1986, Nellie went to part-time in the position of Loan Officer, prior to retiring. She was a life-time member of the Athens United Methodist Church since 1935, and held positions on the Church Administrative Board and the Finance Committee. Over the years, Nellie served in many organizations in her community. She served as Treasurer for Athens Borough, Athens Borough Police Pension Fund, Bradford County ACS, and Tioga Point Museum. She was a Charter Member and served as Secretary for the Athens B.P.W. and North Central Heart Association. Nellie was on the Salvation Army Advisory Board and also served as Secretary. She was a member of the Tioga Point Chapter DAR, The Society of Descendants of Henry Wolcott, and the Bradford County Historical Society.
She is predeceased by her husband Clarence Bunn in 1995.
Nellie is survived by her many friends.
Per Nellie's request, there will be no calling hours or services. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
