My son (Keith) and I were sharing memories of Mike. Mike was always "Mikey" to us when we were growing up. I got mad at him every Saturday because he would always come to the house before American Bandstand was over. That meant I couldn't tape the songs on my tiny reel to reel recorder because he and Parv would be talking too loud.
Keith went to Sayre HS. One evening, we were at a school function and I heard him say, "Hi, Mr. Barry." I had to chuckle at hearing Mikey Barry being called Mr. Barry!! The kids at the school loved Mike. Keith said he was always happy.
I believe that Mike's illness helped to shape the great person he was. He truly knew what it meant to be "happy to be alive".
I have learned through my own losses that loved ones only leave us in the psychical world. They continue to live on inside our hearts.

Shelly I am out of town and won't be able to attend Mike's services but I wanted you to know you are in my thoughts. Mike had a love for you that not many get to experience. Soul Mates. My prayers and condolences to the Barry Family and to the Protection Hose Fire Department.
Mike was a chief, fellow firefighter and most of all a good friend.
I will miss him very much. He was a big influence on my career in the fire service and I will always remember the lessons he taught me as well as our friendship.
Heaven certainly has gained a good man for their fire house. God Bless you Mike and thanks for the friendship. Take Care Buddy.

Our community has been blessed to have someone who cared so much about his fellow man not only in Athens but in many surrounding towns.
