Eugene J. "Gene" Norton, Jr., 59, of Sayre, PA passed away on Wednesday, September 7, 2016 at the Towanda Skilled Nursing Unit following his 10 year courageous battle with cancer. He was born on September 23, 1956 in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Eugene J., Sr. and Dawn (Alexander) Norton. Gene was employed with Ingersoll Rand, Athens for 25 years until his retirement. He was a lifetime member of the Sayre Fire Department, Engine Company #1, and the J.E. Wheelock Hose Company. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, and attending the Binghamton Mets and Senators Hockey games. Gene enjoyed watching football and baseball was an avid Giants Yankees Fan. Gene was very outgoing and loved visiting with everyone he met. Eugene is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Matthew and Melody Norton of Missoula, MT, and their children Ron, Heather, and Matthew and their families, maternal aunts Nancy (Robert) Rogers of Athens, PA and Phyllis (William) Saunders of Newark Valley, NY, maternal uncle James Alexander, Jr. South Waverly, PA, paternal uncles Henry Norton, Jr. of Athens, PA, and George Norton of Athens, PA, paternal aunts Marjorie Rogers of Duke Center, PA, and Alice (Russell) McCracken of Rixford, PA, special cousin Kathy (AJ) Curtis and their children of Duke Center, PA. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, September 12, 2016 at 1pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
