Dorothy Mae Lee Diehl Johnston, age 96 from Potterville, PA passed away peacefully on Sunday the 31st of July, while a resident of the Wyalusing Personal Care and Retirement Home in Wyalusing, PA. Dorothy was born in NYC, New York on March 28th, 1920. She was the only child born to Mamie and Roy Diehl in NYC, NY. She was also raised by her grandmother Rose Nussbaum. Dorothy was married to Francis Johnston in NYC in 1940. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Francis in 1979 and moved to Sayre, PA in 1980. Dorothy worked for many years in Bergenfield High School in Bergenfield, NJ. After moving to Sayre, she immediately volunteered at Robert Packer Hospital for several years which brought her much joy and friendships. She was a dedicated volunteer who provided more than 30,000 hours of service and was selected as the RPH Volunteer of the Year in 1996. Throughout her life, she enjoyed spending time with her friends, especially Mary and Grant Truesdale. She was an avid Yankees fan and spent hours rooting on the Bronx Bombers. She was an active member of the Presbyterian Church in Sayre. While a resident at the Wyalusing Person Care Home, she was provided excellent care by the staff and administration. Her family is forever grateful. Dorothy is survived by her two sons Bruce F. Johnston of Berthoud, CO and Douglass D. Johnston and wife Judy of Potterville, PA. She was a loving mother and grandmother. She is also survived by grandchildren Erin (Rob) Detrick in Nichols, NY, Rick Trowbridge in Hudson, FL, Aaron Yoder in Gillett, PA, Donald Johnston in Middletown, NY, and Lisa (Brian) Coleman in Walden, NY. She has numerous great-grandchildren and she adored them all immensely. A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 18, 2016 at 11:00am at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA.
