Obituary of Carl F. Coleman

Carl Coleman, 93, of South Waverly, PA, born on April 29, 1923, passed away October 26, 2016 at the Athens Health and Rehabilitation Center in Athens, PA. Carl was born in Mildred, PA and attended Cherry Township High School. He served in the U.S. Army from April 1943 to January 1946 with Company M, 142nd Infantry Regiment, 36th Division, in Africa, Italy, France and Germany. While serving his country, he was the recipient of the Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, WWII Victory Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, European African Meddle Eastern Campaign Medal with four Bronze Stars and one Bronze Arrowhead, Army Weapons Badge and Ribbon Bar with five stars (one for each major battle). After being discharged, he worked for American LaFrance and Ward LaFrance in Elmira, NY and 33 years at Ingersoll Rand in Athens. He served as a Police Officer in South Waverly for seven years, was a Constable for 30 years and was a member of the American Legion (Mildred) and Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sayre. He was an avid sportsman and outdoorsman, and especially loved hunting. He was predeceased by his parents, Frank and Margaret Ambs Coleman, his wife, Eleanor, sisters and brothers-in-law Dotha (Louis) Bottone and Martha (Glenn) Rolfe, and brother-in-law Robert Ottaviani. Carl is survived by his son David Coleman; daughter Judy (Eric) Fagner; sister Rosemarie Ottaviani; sister-in-law Frances Rosenberry and brother-in-law Rudy Chick. His grandchildren, Michael Murphy and Corinne (Phillip) McCarty; his great-grandchildren, Brianna Murphy, Jaryd McCarty and Brandon McCarty, as well as several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service with Rev. Linda Rogers officiating, will be held on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 11am at the St. John Lutheran Church, 207 S. Hopkins Street, Sayre PA. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial donations may be made in Carl's memory to St. John Lutheran Church of a charity of one's choice.
