William T. "Bill" Merrill, 89, of Athens, PA passed away on Monday, November 21, 2016, at the Sayre Healthcare Center with his family by his side. He was born June 29, 1927 in in Sayre, PA the son of the late Alfred R. and Helen (Lewis) Merrill. Bill loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He graduated from Athens High School in 1945. He ran the family farm with his father. Following his father's declining health he ran the farm with his wife and children. Bill also drove school bus for both Sayre and Athens. Following his retirement, Bill worked along with his son, Lonn, in his business, Lonn's Equipment in Athens. Bill loved going square dancing and spending winters in Florida with his wife, Marge, prior to her passing. He served two terms as Litchfield Township Supervisor. Bill was always willing to help anyone with projects being a jack of all trades. He especially liked doing mechanical work. Bill enjoyed going to flea markets, camping, and was an avid hunter. He is predeceased by his wife Marjorie in 2002, brother George Merrill, and sisters and brother-in-laws Eunice and Harry Campbell and Emma and Howard Wiles. Bill is survived by his children Lonn Merrill and Ellen Lane of Athens, PA, Linda and Lawrence Henry of Athens, PA, Diana and Douglas Havens of Athens, PA, Carl and Bonnie Merrill of Athens, PA, and Jerry and Debra Pruyne of VA, 6 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Jane Merrill of Athens, PA, brother-in-law James Bradley, brothers-in-law and their spouses Faye and Kay Bradley, and Gerald and Nancy Bradley, several nieces, nephews, and many close friends that will miss him. Friends and family may call on Friday, November 25, 2016 from 11am to 1pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 1pm with the Rev. Kenneth Crain officiating. Burial will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.
