"God received a special angel in heaven who will be watching over us." Marlene McCormick of Sayre, PA passed away at her home on December 4, 2016. She was born on November 12, 1947 in Nanticoke, PA. the daughter of the late Leonard P. Kata and Theodozia (Kowalski) Kata. She is predeceased by former husband of 28 years, John H. McCormick and sister-in-law Betty Jo (McCormick) Hazel. Marlene is survived by her children: Shannon and Schuyler (McCormick) Goltry and Michael and Shannon (Guinan) McCormick, grandchildren: Alexander Goltry, Kailey McCormick and Zachary McCormick, two sisters: Barbara A. Vargo and Denisia M. Veach, niece, Anne K. (Kawczenski) Farina and several cousins. Prior to becoming a full-time mother and homemaker, she was employed as a surgical technologist at Robert Packer Hospital, specializing in cardiac catheterizations. Later in life, she was employed with the Red Jacket Hotel as a Receptionist. She enjoyed history and volunteered for a time at the Tioga Point Museum in Athens, PA. She participated for many years in perpetual adoration at the Church of the Epiphany in Sayre. Marlene was a witty conversationalist, enjoyed crossword puzzles and gardening. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren. A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 14, 2016 at 9:30am at the Church of the Epiphany, 304 South Elmer Ave. Sayre, PA with the Rev. Andrew Hvozdovic officiating. Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA. Marlene was intolerant of animal cruelty therefore; memorial donations may be made in her memory to Stray Haven Humane Society, 194 Shepard Rd., Waverly, NY 14892.
