Obituary of Jack Lombardi

Jack Joseph Lombardi, born Dec. 23, 1917, died September 27, 2011, 93 years old. Jack was the son of the late Anthony and Lucy Lieberi Lombardi. He was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY. Graduated high school. At age 20 recruited into the Civilian Conservation Corps in Eugene Oregon and served two years and was honorably discharged in 1936. He was a World War II Veteran and served in the U.S. Army – 590 Field Artillery Battalion in the European Campaign. He fought in places like Normandy, N. Africa, France, Germany, Italy and the Battle of Ansio. He was Honorably discharged in 1945. He was employed as a horticulturist for the Dept. of Parks, City of New York. He retired in 1980 and moved to Sayre to be closer to his daughters. He is predeceased by his loving wife Jean of 59 years. He is survived by his sister Jean Tambasco and his brother Enrico Lombardi; daughters Barbara (Robert) Nowacoski, Joan (Marc) Stroker, 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Family and friends may call Friday, September 30, 2011 from 10:00 to 11:00AM at the Alteri-Bowen Funeral Home, 314 Desmond St., Sayre, PA 18840. A prayer will be read at 11:00AM. Burial will be in the Tioga Point Cemetery. Family will provide the flowers. Memorial donations may be made in Jack’s name to the VFW Post 1536, 934 W. Lockhart St., Sayre, PA 18840 or to the Guthrie Hospice 421 Tomahawk Rd., Towanda, PA 18848.
