Obituary of Marjorie L. Walter

Marjorie (Marge) Linda Walter, childhood sweetheart and beloved wife of 61 years to the late Jack Walter, and daughter of the late Raymond and Elda Roberts, passed away on December 16, 2016 with her loving family by her side. Marge, as she liked to be called, always had the coffee pot on ready to offer a cup to whoever stopped by. Sometimes those visitors would be the Athens Township snowplow drivers needing a break on a cold winter’s night or the Township fire company after a training session at the pond. Born in Waverly, NY on February 8, 1935, Marge was a devoted mother, grandmother and a dedicated community volunteer. She served as a Boy Scout leader, was President of the Athens Township Historical Society and chaired the Athens Township Bicentennial Committee. Marge was a founding member of the Che-Hanna Rock and Mineral Club and was very active in the Helen Minard PTA. She was the type of person who preferred to stay behind the scenes always willing to make a dessert for the fire company raffle or donate blueberries for the fire company breakfasts. She supported her husband, Jack, in his many community projects and activities as Athens Township Supervisor. Marge worked for several companies over the years including Sayre Lingerie, Tioga Hospital, Athens School District and the Tioga Nursing Facility. Marge’s favorite job was managing Blueberry Mountain Farm which she operated with Jack for many years. Marge was predeceased by her parents, infant sister, and her husband. Marge is survived by her daughters Lyn Pannebaker (Jim) of Middletown, PA and Mary Walter of Litchfield and her sons Daniel (Robin) Walter of Athens Township and David (April) Walter of Athens Township. Also survived by, five grandchildren Zechariah (Jillian) Walter of Downingtown, PA, Brandy Walter of Pittsburg, PA, Melissa (Scott) Kelly of Lewisberry, PA, Megan (Jason) Kofmehl of Mechanicsburg, PA, Ariel Walter of Athens Township and her first great-grandchild Olivia Kelly. Marge is also survived by her sister-in-law and brother-in-law Nan and Bill Crawford of Omaha, NE, special nephew Jeffrey Walter, good friend John Morgan, childhood friend Laura Shaffer, her beloved dog Jigs, many nieces, nephews, cousins and other life-long friends. The coffee pot is now on in heaven! Family and friends are invited to call on Friday, December 23, 2016 from Noon to 2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. The funeral service will follow at 2pm with Chaplain Linda Rogers officiating.
