Obituary of Ruth C. Schmieg

“When tomorrow begins without me don’t ever think we are far apart, for every time you think of me, I will be right here within your heart” Surrounded by her family, Ruth C (Schneider) Schmieg, 83, of Sayre went to her heavenly home on Friday February 10, 2017. She was born in Scranton, PA on October 25, 1933, the youngest child of Charles and Carrie Schneider. She was a graduate of St. Mary’s of the Assumption High School in Scranton, PA class of 1951. On December 1, 1956 she married her high school sweetheart, William J. Schmieg. Together they shared 49 years of marriage and many happy memories until his passing on January 28, 2005. Ruth was a member of Epiphany Parish in Sayre and it’s Altar and Rosary Society for many years, She enjoyed spending time with her family, reading, gardening, shopping, attending sporting events, plays, concerts and dance recitals for her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved trips to Myrtle Beach and beyond with Bill in their RV. Most of all she loved handing out Christmas presents to each and every family member every year. She truly loved to give rather than receive. Ruth will be greatly missed by her children: Ruth (John) Cheresnowsky of Athens, William (Terri) Schmieg of Waverly, Robert Schmieg of Birdsboro, Diane (Guy) Gleockner of Sayre, Joann (Durland) Mosher of Athens, James (Shannon) Schmieg of Athens. She was a loving grandma to: John (Amy) Cheresnowsky, Lisa Cheresnowsky, Stephanie (Jon Teachman) Schmieg, Stacey Schmieg, Janelle (Michael) Steinberg, Jenna (William) Breiner, Nicole Gleockner, Michael Gleockner, Jennifer (Derrick) Dolan, Joshua (Shanone) Kepner, Gretchen Schmieg. Step-grandchildren: Sean (Nanette) Harvey, Nate Harvey (Stephanie Presher), Brianna Harvey, (Nathan Jones), William (Breanne) Mosher, Brittany Mosher. She was a doting GG to twelve great-grandchildren with two on the way, and four step-great grandchildren. She is survived by her brothers George and Joseph Schneider, and sister-in-law Ann Reap, in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. She was welcomed into heaven by her parents, her husband, her sisters Marie Lahey and Margaret Rorick, brother Carl Schneider, sister-in-law Lenora Schneider, Miriam Schneider, Jane Schneider, Madlyn Kearney, brothers-in-laws Jack Lahey, Joseph Rorick, Gerald Kearney and James Reap and great granddaughter Mackenzie Dolan. Family and friends are invited to attend a period of visitation on Monday February 13, 5-8 at Lowery Funeral Home, Athens, PA. A mass of Christian burial will be held at Epiphany Parish, Sayre, PA on Tuesday February 14 at 10 am with Father Vincent Langan officiating. Final internment will be held following mass at Tioga Point Cemetery Athens, PA In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Nancy Quattrini Fund, c/o Guthrie Cancer Center, Guthrie Clinic. The family would like to thank the 5 W Guthrie Oncology staff and especially Dr. Panit Srivatana and Dr. Bradley Lash for their exceptional care. The family also appreciates the comfort provided by Guthrie Hospice.
