Roberta "Bobbie" Fern (Thorp) Ferris, 80, of Waverly, NY passed away on Thursday, March 2, 2017 after living with Alzheimer's for the past year. She was born on July 13, 1936 in Sayre, PA, the daughter of the late Charles G. and Fern E. (Harshbarger) Thorp. Bobbie was a 1954 graduate of Athens High School. After graduation, she worked at IBM where she met her husband, Herbert V. Schneidau, and they moved to California. Three children and nine years later, the family returned to reside in Athens, PA. Bobbie graduated from Nursing School in Binghamton, NY. She began her LPN nursing career at the Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre. Bobbie also worked many years at St. Joseph Hospital in Elmira, NY. She met and married James L. Ferris, Sr., and in 1990 Bobbie and Jim began their business in Athens, Ferris Motor Sales. They operated their business together, which included a Messenger/Notary Service for 29 years. Roberta's greatest joy in life was her children. Always actively involved with their sports, scouts, music, and all of their interests. Bobbie was also extremely talented in knitting. She is predeceased by her youngest child, Charles W. Schneidau. She is survived by her beloved husband James "Jim" L. Ferris, Sr. of Waverly, NY, son and daughter-in-law, William H. and LouAnn Schneidau of Lantana, FL, daughter, Terry L. Schneidau of Binghamton, NY, brothers and sisters-in-law, Thomas and Viola Thorp of Phoenix, AZ and Leon and Carol Thorp of Sayre, PA. She is also survived by a niece, a nephew, 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date.
