Lena (Cardi) Morley died on March 23, 2017 at the Sayre Health Care Center in Sayre, Pa. Lena was born on the first day of October in 1918, the second child of John and Grace (Wolfe) Cardi of Waverly, NY. Lena was predeceased in 1998 by her loving husband of 54 years, John F. Morley, Sr., of South Waverly, Pa., whom she married in 1943, and four brothers and sisters. Sisters Mary and Dolores survive her as do brothers Leo and Lewis, all of whom live in the Valley. In addition to her siblings and numerous nieces and nephews, Lena is also survived by her two children, Christine Annette (Morley) Henry, of St. Petersburg, Fla. and John F. Morley, Jr., of Imperial, Pa., a daughter-in-law, Susan Morley, and three grandchildren, Morley Clay Henry and Molly Catherine Henry (both in Florida) and Jordan Daniel Morley (in Pennsylvania). Lena is fondly remembered as well by several caretakers who worked with her for over a decade at her apartment in Sayre, Pa. Lena graduated from Waverly High School in 1935, having been advanced one full year in high school because of her scholastic abilities. For several years, she worked for companies in light manufacturing and retail, before becoming a full-time homemaker on the birth of her daughter in 1952. Lena was a devoted Catholic as a parishioner at St. John the Evangelist Church in South Waverly and later at St. Joseph's Church in Athens and Epiphany Church in Sayre. For many years, she taught Sunday school classes at St. John's. Lena's life was changed in a dramatic material way on an October day in 1972, when she and her husband won a state lottery drawing. They propelled their lottery winnings into a set of investments that allowed them to retire comfortably until her husband's death and her to live out her life on her own terms. Friends and family may call on, Monday, March 27 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home, 225 South Main Street, Athens, Pa. Funeral services for Lena will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 28 at 10 a.m. Burial will follow the funeral service at Tioga Point Cemetery.
