Obituary of Virginia R. Morris

Virginia Roberts Morris, 92, of Sayre, PA, passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2017 at Sayre Health Care Center following a brief illness.

She was born on September 7, 1924 in Milan, PA, the daughter of the late William and Sarah (Chilcote) Roberts.

Virginia loved spending time with her family.  She was previously employed by Virginia’s Dress Shop and the Tioga Point Hotel, but her true love was being a homemaker and raising her three sons.
Virginia enjoyed bowling and belonged to the I.R. Bowling League and the Valley Bowling Center Senior League.  She was a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, Troop 83. 

She enjoyed crossword puzzles, crafts, and gardening.  In the past, she refinished many furniture pieces.  In her younger years, Virginia enjoyed watching and feeding the birds and other animals outside her home.  When she went to reside at the Sayre Health Care Center, she could see out her window and spent many hours watching the birds at the feeder and the deer.

She is predeceased by her beloved husband Carl Morris, brothers Glenn, Joseph, Allen, Leon, William, and Milan Roberts, sisters, Hazel Johnson, Annabel King, Marion Klinko, and Inez Roberts.

Virginia is survived by her children, Robert and Selma Morris of Waverly, NY, William and Margaret Morris of Athens, PA, and James and Dottie Morris of Williamsport, PA, grandchildren Amy and Harry Babcock, Thomas Morris, James and Barbara Canning, Traci and Chris Lanier, Lisa Getz, Janel Gordner, Jennifer Morris, and James and Priscila Morris, ten great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family may call on Saturday, July 1, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA.  Funeral Services will follow at 12 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating.

Memorial donations may be made in Virginia’s memory to: Sayre Health Care Center, 151 Keefer Lane, Sayre, PA 18840, to help with the expense of feeding the wild animals that the residents enjoy watching.
