Herbert J. "Herb" Barry, 74, of Athens, PA, passed away on Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at the Robert Packer Hospital with his family by his side following a brief illness. He was born on March 16, 1943 in Wilkes-Barre, PA, the son of the late John and Lavina (Searfoss) Barry. Herb worked at Ingersoll Rand in Athens, PA, retiring after 43 years of employment. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his great-granddaughter, Adalynn. Herb's nickname was Mr. Fix-It. He could fix anything for anyone; if he couldn't fix it, it couldn't be fixed. He was always willing to help anyone in need. Herb loved collecting and restoring antique Fords, of which his favorites were the 1956 and 1957 Thunderbirds. He enjoyed RC airplanes, boats, cars, and trains, and was a member of the Valley RC Club. Herb always had one-liners or jokes, and was the first to harass you before you could get him. He is predeceased by brothers and sisters-in-law John and Janet Barry, Robert and Mary Barry, brother Richard Barry, and mother-in-law and father-in-law Fred and Elizabeth Burnett. Herbert is survived by his wife of 53 years, Susan at home, children Michelle and Mark Hurlbut of Athens, PA, Brenda Barry and Doug Grover of Erin, NY, grandchildren Jennifer and James Matthews, Mikayla Burch, Brendan Burch, and Brooke Johnson, great-granddaughter Adalynn Matthews, brother and sister-in-law Philip and Marilyn Barry of Sayre, PA, nephews Philip (Rene) Barry, Richard (Tammy) Barry, Robert (Cathy) Barry, Edward Barry, several great-nieces and great-nephews, and many, many friends. He was loved by all those who knew him and will be missed. Friends and family may call on Friday, July 7, 2017 from 6 pm to 8 pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Graveside Services will be held Saturday, July 8, at 11 am at Tioga Point Cemetery, 803 N.
