Obituary of Barbara A. Brooks
Barbara A. "Barb" Brooks, 79, passed away peacefully at the Sayre Healthcare Center on July 12, 2017.
Barb was born on October 3, 1937 to Louis and Marthabel Beach, both of whom predeceased her as well as her sister Betty Pack.
Barb was a 1955 graduate of Sayre High School and a fan of Sayre sports. She spent 28 years as a ticket taker for basketball games and wrestling matches, served as the Sayre School Board secretary and was a past member of the Sayre Little League Board of Directors and the Sayre Redskin Club. She spent 36 years as an Ingersoll Rand employee, most of which was as a Benefits Administrator helping others understand their retirement and insurance benefits, retiring in 1997 but still fielding calls from "her pensioners" when they had questions about their pension benefits.
Barb is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, John and Missy Brooks and granddaughter Riley, all of Van Etten, NY, Paul McCabe, who Barb referred to as her second son, of New Hope, NY, niece Kathy (Mike) Daniel of Appomattox, VA, nephew Mark Pack of Endicott, NY, niece Jennifer Hicks of Sayre, PA, nieces Maureen (Jeff) Decker of Horseheads, NY, Kristy Hicks of Bury St. Edmunds, England, Katherine Hicks of Lancaster, PA and Nicole (Dusten) Morley of Kansas, nephews Eric (Leann) Sealander and children Jarrett, Josie and Carly of Ona, WV, Jonathon Pack of Sayre, PA, Christopher Pack of Florida, and Ethan Chacona of Sayre, PA as well as numerous cousins and friends including special friends, the Golden Girls – Pat Ferguson, Mary Sargent and Brenda Ferguson – and Chip and Gerry Bennett and their family.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, July 15, 2017 from 2pm-3pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 3pm with the Rev. Kevin Arensman officiating.
