Obituary of David J. Smith
David J. Smith “The Glassman”, 62, of Milan, PA, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, July 20, 2017.
He was born November 2, 1954, in Hamlin, NY, the son of Oliver J. Smith and Margaret Flugel.
David owned the The Glassman in Milan, PA for over 30 years, doing both commercial and residential glass. As he told all, he was the “One Stop Window Shop”. He loved spending time with his family and friends. David enjoyed boating, especially at Seneca Lake. He also enjoyed motorcycling, hunting, hot rods, music, especially rock and roll, and “Wheeling and Dealing”. He spent a lot of time outdoors tending to his yard.
He is predeceased by his father, Oliver J. Smith and mother, Margaret Flugel Ames.
David is survived by his beloved partner of 20 years, Kathy Anthony of Milan, PA, children, Jackie Smith and his buddy, Dr. Anthony Grippo of Athens, PA, Michael and Tara James of Rochester, NY, David John Smith and Dr. Emily Pica of Clarksville, TN, Joshua Thomas and Barbara Smith of Chesapeake, VA, Caleb Lawrence Smith and Megan Welch of Gillett, PA, and Isaac James Smith of Chesapeake, VA, step-children, Joshua Anthony and Shelby Poarch, grandchildren, Trever Smith, Cyris Anthony, Ava Poarch, Faye Poarch, and Kit James. He is also survived by his siblings and their spouses, James and Patricia Smith of Cocoa Beach, FL, and their children, Chad and Garrett, Vicki Smith Drysdale of Hamlin, NY, and her son, Alex, John and Kristin Smith of Clarendon, NY and their children, Jeffrey and Cody, and Michael and Brandi Smith of Case Grande, AZ and their children, Nicholas, Ava, and Taylor, his best friend and former wife, Rosemary Rafferty Smith of Knoxville, PA, and special friends, Kathy and Jim Murphy, Kelly Brown, and Raymond “Unc” Arsenault.
The family is planning a Celebration of Life Service to be held in Athens, PA and Rochester, NY in the near future. The service will be announced in a later edition of this paper. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA. The family wishes to thank PA-C Kim Trahan of Guthrie who as David called her, “His Guardian Angel” and the Staff of the Guthrie Cancer Center.
