Obituary of Roger W. Lowry
Roger W. Lowry, 69, of Waverly, NY passed away surrounded by his loving family on Thursday, August 03, 2017 at his home.
He was born on October 27, 1947, in Morris Run, PA, the son of the late Campbell and Nellie Mae (Molyneux) Lowry.
Roger worked as an Auto Mechanic for over 40 years with foreign cars as his specialty. He was a Veteran of the US Army, serving during Vietnam and was the recipient of 2 Bronze Stars. He was a member and past Commander of the American Legion Post #283. Roger loved spending time with his grandchildren and enjoyed camping with his family, especially on Armenia Mountain. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish. Roger enjoyed watching and participating in motorsports, working as part of the pit crew. Always willing to help, Roger could often be found solving problems and working on other people’s vehicles.
He is predeceased by his first wife, Lorraine Y. Roberts Lowry, sisters, Ida Mae Aumick, Louise Billheim, Betty Costley, Sarah Smith, June Sowle, great-granddaughter, Ava Nikol Lowry, brothers, Clarence “Bud” Holly, Robert Lowry, and Thomas Holly.
Roger is survived by his wife of 15 years, Cindy at home, children, David and Jessica Lowry of Athens, PA, Theresa and Monti Emery of Big Flats, NY, Melissa M. Grubb of Athens, PA, Rebecca and Gary Winslow of Chemung, NY, Brian and Jackie Babcock of Marion, NY, Derek Durgin of Waverly, NY, Wayne G. Stedge of Waverly, NY, and Suellen L. Stedge of McLeansville, NC, 15 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Linda Lowry of Canton, PA, Harold and Donna Lowry of Gillett, PA, sister, Marion Reed of Blossburg, PA, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family may call on Monday, August 7, 2017 from 11am-1pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home at 1pm with Rev. Linda Rogers officiating.
Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA. Military Honors will be accorded.
