Obituary of Gladys Marie Douglas
Gladys Marie Douglas, 78, of Athens, PA, passed away peacefully with her loved ones by her side on Wednesday, August 09, 2017 at Sayre Health Care Center.
She was born on February 18,1939 in Hector, NY, the daughter of the late Lynn H. and Cecil M. (Swick) Simmons.
She is predeceased by her husband, LeRoy J. Douglas, great-granddaughter, Maleah Thurston, and brother, Robert Simmons.
Gladys was employed as a Nurses' Aide for many years and went on to work in Quality Control in various manufacturing plants, prior to her retirement. She enjoyed traveling from town to town with her husband while he played his music. She was a member of the Senior Center at the Athens United Methodist Church.
Gladys is survived by her children, Diane Carpenter and husband, Philip Schloss, Sr. of Burdette, NY and Sandy and Michael Thurston of Athens, PA, grandchildren, Nicholas and Jennifer Dwello, Chad Thurston, and Philip Schloss, Jr., great-grandchildren, Harley Thurston, McKenzi Thurston, and Cole Dwello, brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Tina Simmons of Endicott, NY, brother, David Simmons of Minersville, PA, and sister and brother-in-law, Grace and Wilber Shaup of Minersville, PA, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At Glady's request, there will be no calling hours or services. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
Burial will be in Ovid, NY at the convenience of the family.
