Obituary of Joseph M. Quinn
Joseph M. “Joe” Quinn, 67, of Athens, PA, passed away on Thursday, August 24, 2017 at his home.
He was born on May 4, 1950 in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Joseph James and Gertrude (Smith) Quinn.
Joe was a lifelong resident of Athens and was a 1969 graduate of Athens High.
He was a U.S. Veteran, serving in the Army during the Vietnam War. He was a Welder at GE Rail for over 35 years before retiring. Joe loved driving around in his red truck to different areas, collecting scrap metal with his faithful companion, KK. While collecting his scrap, Joe became a familiar face to many throughout the Valley. He will be missed by all those who knew him. Joe took wonderful care of his mother and father, and was the kind of man that would give the shirt off his back and the last dollar in his pocket to anyone in need. He was an avid NASCAR fan, and enjoyed watching wrestling on TV.
He was predeceased by his daughter, Amy Marie, sisters, Nancy and Ruth, and grandparents, Ike and Ruth Smith.
Joseph is survived by sons, Joseph Quinn of Waverly, NY, and Tony Talada, daughters, Nikki VanDyke, Shannon Nobles, Kimberly Deprimo, and Bernadette VanDyke, seven grandchildren, including his special buddy, Tobias Quinn, brothers, James (Barb) Quinn of Waverly, NY, John Quinn of Wilmington, NC, Jeff (Sandy) Quinn of Waverly, NY, sister, Sandra Smith of Athens, PA, and 12 nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call August 28, 2017 from 10am-11am at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home at 11am with Rev. Linda Rogers officiating. At the family’s request in honor of Joe, please attend in casual dress.
