Obituary of Mona M. Dowie

Mona Dowie, 47, of Waverly, NY, passed away on September 13, 2017, at her home surrounded by her family, following an extended illness.

She was born on May 11, 1970, in Sayre, PA, the daughter of Leslie and Katherine (DePumpo) Shaffer.

Mona was a devoted wife, mother, and daughter.  She graduated from Waverly High School in 1988.  She then attended Cazenovia College before transferring to the Columbus College of Art and Design. She was a talented Artist and Illustrator, and a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA).  Mona will be remembered for her loving and caring nature.

She was predeceased by her sister, Sarah Shaffer.

Mona is survived by her beloved husband of 13 years, William Dowie at home, children, Ashli Johnson, John Goodnow, and Ember Goodnow, parents Leslie and Katherine Shaffer, brothers, Les (Tayna) Shaffer and David Lovejoy, sister, Stephanie Barton, and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family are invited to gather to celebrate Mona’s life at the Dowie residence, 25 Al Spadaro Way, Waverly, NY, Saturday, September 16, 2017 at 1pm. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.

Directions to the Dowie residence: Cayuta Avenue in Waverly, across from Soprano’s, turn right toward East Waverly Park, take the dirt road to the left of the Park, go to the end of the road.
