Obituary of Helen Marie Knott
Helen M. Knott, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family with the faithful support of Guthrie Hospice on Monday, October 2, 2017.
She was born on July 17, 1922 in Sayre, PA the daughter of the late William and Anna (Sydoriak) Murray.
Helen was a fiercely independent woman who loved her family, gardening, furry friends, and her backyard birds and flowers. She had a generous spirit, making sure you never left her home without the offer of something to take with you. She was known for her stove-top popcorn and Italian cookies, which she provided in abundance to her grateful family and friends.
She was a 1941 graduate of Sayre High School. After graduation, she worked for Manoic and Eclipse. Helen then was employed with Westinghouse in Elmira, NY, retiring in 1977. Helen married George Knott on March 3rd, 1946 in Long Island, NY, and they celebrated 53 years of marriage prior to his passing in 1999. For many years, Helen was a member of the Church of the Redeemer.
She was preceded in death by her husband; George Knott, Sr., brothers; Michael Murray, Harry Murray, and William Murray, Jr., sisters and brothers-in-law; Alice and Delos Dann, Sophie and Cecil Ennis, Mary and Lou Cardwell, and Rose and Harold Bender.
Helen is survived by her son; George Knott, Jr. and his wife Jeannette of Endicott, NY and daughter; Carol Regan of Towanda, PA, grandchildren; Thomas Knott and wife Samantha of Fredericksburg, VA, Cheryl Capwell and husband David of Sugar Hill, GA, Jeremy Regan and wife Cara of West Friendship, MD, Josh Regan of Springfield, OR, and Jonathan Regan of Saylorsburg, MD, great-grandchildren; Larissa, Aaron, Ryan, Liam, Tiernan, Ashton and Meghan Knott of VA, Jarrett, Tevin, and Colby Capwell of GA, and Lilyana and Matthew Regan of MD, sister; Pauline Allen of Owego, NY and numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, October 7, 2017, from 2:30pm – 4:30pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral services will follow at 4:30pm at the funeral home with the Rev. William Wells officiating.
