Obituary of Dale R. O'Connor
Dale Robert O'Connor, 67, of Athens, PA, passed away with his beloved family by his side on Monday, October 23, 2017 at his daughter's home following an extended illness.
He was born on January 13, 1950 in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Martin and Leila Horton O'Connor.
Dale attended SRU School and went on to a trade school for diesel mechanics. He was a Veteran of the US Army, serving during the Vietnam War. He loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Dale worked in the automotive industry as a mechanic for years. When not at work, Dale could be seen in his garage tinkering on cars with his son-in-law, Chris. They had a special relationship and Dale taught Chris all he knew about working on vehicles. Even after he became ill, he could be seen in the garage giving directions on what was being fixed. He was always willing to help anyone in need, especially with their car repairs.
He was predeceased by his brother David O'Connor, maternal grandparents Robert and Mabel (Conklin) Horton, paternal grandparents Martin and Lillian Mae Parsons O'Connor, his dear aunt Maude O'Connor, and uncles Harry Horton, Guy Holcombe, aunts and uncles, Beulah and Hugh Houghtaling, Paul and Anna Laura (Cole) O'Connor, Raymond and Beatrice (O'Connor) Randall, and Anthony and Agnes (O'Connor) Palopoli, several cousins, and father-in-law and mother-in-law, James and Virginia Beers.
Dale is survived by his wife of 48 years Dorotha O'Connor at home, daughter, Heather Coyle of Sayre, PA and daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Chris Murray of East Smithfield, PA, grandchildren, Christian Murray, Joselyn Murray, Macie Coyle, Ella Coyle, brother and sister-in-law Dean and Cora O'Connor of Milan, PA, sister Doris Cooper of Glen Mills, PA, and brother Daniel O'Connor of Longmont, CO. Dale is also survived by his nieces and nephews, Pamela O'Connor, Scott O'Connor, Danielle O'Connor, Wendi Cooper Langan, Jeremy Cooper, and Geoffrey Cooper, special friend and cousin Louie and Joan O'Connor, several cousins, brothers-in-law, Kenneth Beers and Howard Beers, his close friend, Don Townsend and his children, Ricky Townsend and Sandy Townsend.
At Dale's request, the family will hold a private service at a later date. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. Athens, PA.
