Obituary of Douglas D. Vanderpool
Douglas D. "Doug" Vanderpool, 73, of Athens, PA, passed away at home with his family by his side on Wednesday, October 25, 2017.
He was born on April 11, 1944, the son of the late Reginald C. and Freda (Austin) Vanderpool.
Doug was a Machinist at Ingersoll-Rand, Athens, retiring in 2002 after 40 years of employment. He loved spending time with his family and friends, especially spending time with his grandson, Jordan, and watching him play ball. Doug was a Little League Coach for many years. He enjoyed fishing and hunting. He loved camping, particularly at the family's campsite at Brenchley's Lake, where he was known as "Walter". Doug was an avid Penn State, Yankees, and New York Giants fan. He was a social member of VFW Post #1536 and Athens American Legion #246, where he also bartended.
He was predeceased by his sister, Inez Young and brother-in-law, Ron Chamberlain.
Douglas is survived by his beloved wife of 40 years, Sharon, at home, son and daughter-in-law, Douglas and Sue Vanderpool of Waverly, NY, son, Jason Vanderpool of Athens, PA, his buddy and grandson, Jordan Vanderpool, sisters and brothers-in-law, Vivian and William Chandler of Pinellas, FL and Clarice and David Chandler of Shunk, PA, brother and sister-in-law, Vernon and Pearl Vanderpool of Athens, PA, sister, Lois Chamberlain of Cranberry Township, PA, brother-in-law, Richard Young of Geneva, NY, numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He is also survived by many friends, including his Lake and Legion family.
At Doug's request, there will be no calling hours or services. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens, PA.
