Obituary of Doris L. VanWormer

Doris L. Van Wormer, 87, of Sayre, PA passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2017.

She was born on June 30, 1930 in Athens, PA, the daughter of the late Leslie and Grace (Myers) Saxon.

Doris loved spending time with her family, especially during the holidays and family gatherings. She liked going for long rides and taking in the beautiful scenery.  One of her favorite past times was shopping, with her main focus being shoes, pocketbooks, and coats. During the last few years, Doris discovered she enjoyed playing Bingo. Doris had a beautiful smile that made you feel special. She will be greatly missed by all those who knew and loved her.

She was predeceased by her parents, Leslie and Grace (Myers) Saxon, husband, Max Van Wormer, daughter, Lois Van Wormer, sons, Bill Van Wormer and David Van Wormer, sister and brother-in-law, June and Robert Stranger, brothers and sisters-in-law, Melvin and Dorothy Saxon, Sherman and Elizabeth Saxon, and Durwood and Olive Saxon, and son-in-law, David Gergel.

Doris is survived by daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Harry Blackman of Sayre, PA, daughters, Starr Gergel of Glen Aubrey, NY, and Stacey Keener and fiancé Scott Winters of Sayre, PA, daughter and son-in-law, Holly and Robert Kingsley of Glen Aubrey, NY, twelve grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and special friend and caring nurse, Mary Lewis.

Friends and family may call on Monday, November 6, 2017 from 12pm-2pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at 2pm at the funeral home with Rev. Helen Learn, of the Athens United Methodist Church, officiating.

Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery.
