Obituary of Lloyd E. Smith
Lloyd E. Smith, 83, of South Waverly, PA passed away peacefully at his home with his family by his side on Friday, December 15, 2017.
He was born on December 3, 1934 in Halsey Valley, NY, the son of the late Elwell C. and Alice Rumsey Smith.
Lloyd was passionate about his family and loved spending time with them, especially his grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He was a professional shopper who would drive miles to search out all the great deals, including rummage sales. He would spend time with all the butchers in the meat departments to be sure he was getting the best price possible and at the same time was forming friendships. His highlight of every day was heading off to enjoy his coffee with his Burger King buddies, spending time seeing who could tell the best joke of the day. Lloyd could talk to anyone, anywhere, at any time and he formed many lasting friendships and will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. He enjoyed camping and fishing. Lloyd was employed with Spencer Agway with his brother for over 37 years, prior to retiring. He also operated his farm, growing all his own vegetables and every Sunday night held a corn roast with corn from his garden, until moving to South Waverly.
He is predeceased by his wife Joyce (Marbaker) Smith, sister and brother-in-law, Frances and Jim Cooper, brother, Kenneth Smith, and brothers-in-law, George Tohkannen, John Mott, Richard Zeitel, and Frank Park.
Lloyd is survived by his children, Edward and Barb Smith of Himrod, NY, Richard Smith of Spencer, NY, LuAnn and Ron Miner of Waverly, NY, Timothy Smith of Emmaus, PA, and Thomas and Nancy Smith of Delhi, NY, grandchildren, Aimee and James Brown, Tyler and Maggie Smith, Adam Smith, Sarah and Ben Syden, Josh and Sarah Smith, Brandon Smith, Tanner Smith, Blaine and Theresa Olmstead, Heather miner, Cara Miner, Mason Smith, Sydney Smith, and Joelle Smith, and 15 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sisters, Barbara Tohkannen of Spencer, NY, Anna Mae Mott of Ithaca, NY, and Jean Zeitel of Naples, FL, sisters-in-law, Rose Seeley of Spencer, NY and Lela Park of Waverly, NY, several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friend, Marge Warren of Ridgebury, PA.
Friends and family may call on Wednesday, December 20, 2017 from 11am to 12pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA 18810. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 12:00pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating.
Burial will be in Halsey Valley Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
