Obituary of Lillian M. Stroud

Lillian M. Stroud, 89, of Sayre, PA, passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, December 24, 2017 at the Sayre Health Care Center following a period of declining health.

She was born on November 18, 1928 in Rome Twp., PA the daughter of the late Birdsey Ray and Anna (Colegrove) VanDuzer.

Lillian attended the Athens Area School District. She was employed with the Forrest House Hotel and The Mountain Top Inn in the kitchen and the Blue Swan in Sayre as a Bartac Operator, retiring in 1967. Lillian was a dedicated Christian woman who was a member of the Bumpville Bible Church and the First Church of God. She was a member of the Church Choir, WCG, participated in the annual candy making, and enjoyed attending the Bible Study. Lillian loved spending time with her family and friends. She loved the holidays, and was famous for her candy making and baked goods. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards, especially UNO. Lillian was a member of the Athens Senior Citizens and Windham Fire Department Fire Police.

She is predeceased by her first husband, Albert Talada, Sr. and second husband, Howard Stroud, daughter, Tina Mae Talada, and son, Robert Talada, son-in-law, Robert Lawson, Jr., brothers, Leroy VanDuzer, Paul VanDuzer, Chester VanDuzer, Robert VanDuzer, and Rodney VanDuzer, and sisters, Catherine Crandall and Helen Gesford Wheeler.

Lillian is survived by her children, Rosemary Lawson of Troy, PA, Albert "Butch" and Kathy Talada, Jr. of Elmira, NY, William and Judy Talada of Waverly, NY, Patricia and Michael Vanderpool of Athens, PA, Linda and John Smith of Candor, NY, and Carrie and Tim Stroker of Milan, PA, stepson, Walter and Linda Stroud of Waverly, NY, daughter-in-law, Tina Talada of Rome, PA, grandchildren, Amy and Tom Gilliland, James Vanderpool, Christina and Michael VanValkenburg, Holly and Peter VanWaes, Robert Lawson III, Chad Talada, Jaime Lyn Talada, Brian and Brianne Smith, Aaron Martz, Nathan Martz, and Sarah Jordan, great-grandchildren, Tierra and Ryanna Walburn, Ambur and Kevin Thurston, Dustin and Hope Brawley, Hali VanValkenburg, John VanValkenburg, Sebastian VanValkenburg, Gage Vanderpool, Ivy Naughton, Trey Naughton, Elan VanWaes, Kyle Cole, Victoria Jordan, Jay Jordan, and Logan Stroud, great-great-grandchildren, Zeryk Thurston, Lucas Thurston, and Kaidence Brawley. She is also survived by sister Anna Mae "Mazie" Lantz of Green Landing, PA, and Alice Horton of Towanda, PA, sisters-in-law, Charlotte Rowe of Sayre, PA, Leona VanDuzer of Wilawana, PA, Josie Saxon of Monroeton, PA, and Pat VanDuzer of St. Paul, NC, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family may call on Tuesday, January 2, 2017 from 11am – 12pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral services will follow at 12pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Helen Learn officiating.

Burial will follow the service at the Kenneth Buck Cemetery in Windham, PA.
