Obituary of Charles L. Arnold
Charles L. “Charlie” Arnold, 93, of Sayre, PA was called home by his Lord on Saturday, February 3, 2018 following a period of declining health.
He was born November 20, 1924, in Sayre, PA, the son of Everett J. and Edna B. (Matthews) Arnold.
Charles was a lifetime resident of Bradford County. He was a graduate of Sayre High School, but his grandmother had to accept his diploma due to him joining the military. Charles was a Veteran of the US Army, proudly serving during World War II. He was a Medic during the war serving in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland, and Central Europe. During those campaigns, he was awarded the EAME Service Ribbon with a Silver Star.
Upon returning home from the Military, Charles went to work for W.T. Grant Company and Horn and Taylor prior to beginning his 32-year career with Wolf Furniture as a Deliveryman, retiring in 1986. He married the love of his life, the former Ida Cole, on June 19, 1954, and they celebrated 63 years of marriage in 2017. He was a beloved husband and loving father and grandfather.
Charles was a devout Christian man, serving the Lord in many capacities. A former member of the Sayre Pilgrim Holiness Church, he served as the Church Secretary, was the song leader and a member of the choir. He presently was a member of the Chemung Christian Fellowship in Chemung, NY. He was a Godly man whose kindness and caring mannerisms shall be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Many will remember Charles as their mentor and a man that was deeply respected.
He is predeceased by his father, Everett J. Arnold, mother and step-father, Edna B. and Leon B. Palmer, infant brother, Jack Hoover Arnold, and sister, Laura Greeno.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Ida Cole at home, son and daughter-in-law, Kenneth E. and Beth Arnold of Castle Rock, CO, grandsons, Kory Arnold of Denver, CO and Kevin Bowler of San Diego, CA, granddaughter, Keri and Christian Stump of San Jose, CA, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Friends and family may call on Friday, February 9, 2018 from 11am-1pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 1pm with the Rev. William Wells and Rev. Randy Stilson co-officiating.
Burial will be in Nichols Cemetery, Nichols, NY.
