Obituary of Phyllis M Johnston

Those we love don’t go away, they walk beside us every day…unseen, unheard, but always near. STILL LOVED, still missed and very dear.

Phyllis M. Johnston, 91, of Athens formerly of Litchfield, PA passed away peacefully following a period of declining health on Thursday, February 8, 2018 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre, PA.

She was born on January 28, 1927 in Saco, PA, the daughter of the late Otto A. and Mabel (Foster) Kasson.

Phyllis was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother and loved spending time with her family. She was employed with Blue Swan and Sayre Lingerie as a Seamstress for over 45 years, prior to retiring. Phyllis was an avid reader and was hardly ever seen without a book in her hand. At the times she did watch TV, it was the game shows like Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune or the Lawrence Welk Show. She did enjoy joining in the activities at the nursing home, especially the Weekly Bible Study and Bingo. In her younger years, she enjoyed camping with her husband, Calvin and their family.

She is predeceased by her husband, Calvin I. Johnston in Oct. 2006, grandchildren, Garrick Johnston II and James Root, siblings, Flora Driesbaugh, Foster Kasson, Denzel Kasson, and Betty Hushelpeck.

Phyllis is survived by her children, Arthur and Marty Johnston of Athens, PA, Garrick Johnston of West Palm Beach, FL, Gwen and Joe Davidson of Ulster, PA, and Tim Johnston of Waverly, NY, grandchildren, Mark and Sandra Johnston of Haverton, PA, Christina and Tony Nolan of Broken Arrow, OK, Elizabeth Johnston of Homets Ferry, PA, Amy and Glenn Fassett of Waverly, NY, Jeremy Davidson and Fiance, Bre Hicks of Athens, PA, and Jason and Holly Davidson of Chalfont, PA, great-grandchildren, Lily, Fiona, Aidan, Colbrin, Halle, Alaina, Connor, Shea, Anna, Allie, and Declan, and several nieces and nephews.  

Family and friends may call on Monday, February 12, 2018 from 5pm-7pm at Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 11am at the funeral home with the Rev. James Donahoo officiating.

Burial will be in Tioga Point Cemetery, Athens, PA.

Memorial donations may be made in Phyllis’ memory to any library of your choice, honoring her love for reading. The family wishes to thank the 2^nd ICU and 5^th floor staff at Robert Packer Hospital for the excellent care given to their loved one.
