Obituary of Janet L. Geiger

Janet L. Geiger, 79, of Sayre, PA, passed away peacefully with her family and friends by her side at home on Sunday, February 18, 2018 following a brief illness. She was born on October 15, 1938 in Towanda, PA, the daughter of the late Lawrence William and Velma (Barnes) Peet. Janet was a graduate of Meshoppen High School, in 1954. Following high school, she attended the Robert Packer Hospital Surgical Technology School. She became a Certified Surgical Technologist and was employed with Robert Packer Hospital from 1972 until she retired in 1993. During those years she enjoyed working in both the Emergency Department and Operating Room. Janet was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was married to Richard Geiger, the love of her life for 37 years. After retiring, they both decided it was time to live and love life to the fullest, so they began traveling throughout the United States, visiting many Western States and Hawaii. They took many trips to "their vacation hotspots", which meant they were headed to the casinos. They also enjoyed square dancing together. Janet was an avid knitter and reader. She enjoyed gardening, feeding, and watching birds, especially the hummingbirds, and she loved cats, her most recent stray is Priscilla. She is predeceased by her daughter; Laura McCarthy in May of 2011, and step-daughter Lynn (Geiger) Gans in May of 2015. Janet is survived by her beloved husband; Richard at home, her children; Larry Millard and Vicky Girardi of Athens, PA, Mona and Matthew Marshall of Waverly, NY, and Russell Millard of Colorado Springs, CO; step-son Allen and Rosanna Geiger of Las Cruces, NM ; step-daughter Tamara and Michael McGinnitty of Apache Junction, AZ.; son-in-law; Dennis McCarthy of Sayre, PA; step-son-in-law Tom Gans of Doylestown, PA; grandchildren; Joseph and Kim (#1) McCarthy of Tucson, AZ, Joshua and Kim (#2) McCarthy of Sayre, PA, Kierstin and Richard Gardner of Athens, PA, Sarah and Jeffrey Rae of Anderson, SC, Genevieve Millard of Apalachin, NY, Matthew Millard, serving in the US Air Force at McGuire AFB in NJ, Caitlin and Justin Kinsley of Sayre, PA, Nathan Marshall of Greece, NY, and Casey Jo Millard of Atlanta, GA. She is also survived by her great-grandchildren; Kaylee, Ella, Colton, Jordan, Ahren, Porter, Raven, Ashton, Hudson, Madelyn, Hannah, Jacob, Dennis, Kristina, Katie and Roy; brother and sister-in-law; Robert and Donna Peet of Dunedin, FL, and many nieces and nephews. Family and friends may call on Saturday, February 24, 2018 from 1pm-3pm at Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at the funeral home at 3pm with the Rev. William Wells officiating.
