Obituary of Geraldine H. Coolbaugh
"When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure."
Geraldine H. Coolbaugh, 102, of Athens, PA was called home by her Lord on Saturday, March 3, 2018 following a brief illness.
She was born in East Towanda, PA on October 20, 1915, one of six children to the late James and Alice Mae (Montgomery) Harbst.
Geraldine's life was always focused around her faith, her family, and her friends. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great grandmother. Geraldine grew up on the family farm, attended school in LeRaysville, and with her siblings worked hard to help support the family. When she became a mother herself, in her children's younger years she enjoyed sewing and made many of her children's clothing. She enjoyed crocheting, especially making afghans for family members. One of Geraldine's greatest joys in life, was having family to her house for Sunday dinners and the Harbst Coffee Hours, that most recently became more frequent again. Geraldine worked many jobs while raising her children which included Remington Rand for 21 years as a Machinist and Reagan Jewelers, Sayre for over 17 years, prior to retiring.
She was an active member of the Calvary Baptist Church; teaching Sunday School, served as the Sunday School Secretary, and a member of the choir. Geraldine was an Awana Club Leader, served on the Hostess Committee, Memorization Team, and part of the Prayer Warriors.
She is predeceased by her husband; George C. Coolbaugh, father of her children; Eugene Jackson, son; Kenneth Jackson, and siblings; May Daugherty, Christine McCabe, Edward Harbst, James Harbst, and Paul Harbst, Sr.
Geraldine is survived by her children; Jane Harford of Waverly, NY, Clyde and Barbara Jackson of Springdale, AK, Dawn and Bruce Maue of Sayre, PA, and Michael and Georgianna Jackson of Sayre, PA, daughter-in-law; Ardus Jackson of Siloam Springs, AK, 26 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 46 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law; Dorothy Harbst of Hoover, AL, and she will also be missed by many special nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may call on Saturday, March 10, 2018 from 11am – 1pm at the Calvary Baptist Church, 701 West Pine Street, Athens, PA. Geraldine's Celebration of Her Life will follow at the church at 1pm with the Rev. Mark Cox officiating.
Geraldine will be laid to rest next to her husband in Woodlawn National Cemetery, Elmira, NY at the convenience of the family.
