Obituary of Thomas A. Shaffer

Thomas “To-Key” A. Shaffer, 76, of Waverly, NY passed away on Tuesday, March 13, 2018 at home following an extended illness.

He was born on July 28, 1941 in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Thomas and Euleta (McCloe) Shaffer.

To-Key was a Veteran of the US Army, serving from 1959-1962. He was employed with Ingersoll Rand, Athens for 34 years, prior to retiring. To-key loved spending time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. He enjoyed just taking rides with his “Sweet Pea”, Mandy. One of the highlights of his life was socializing with his friends and hanging out with the “Gang” at the Hofbrau and Boody’s. He was an avid Yankees and Giants fan. To-Key was proud of his time in the service and was one who was always willing to help any Veteran organization in need. He was a member of the American Legion Post #283 and Sayre VFW Post #1536. He was a Lifetime Member of the J.E. Wheelock Hose Company, Sayre and a past member of the Sons of Italy.

He is predeceased by his brother and sister-in-law; Douglas and Nancy Shaffer, sister; Cindy Shaffer, and brother-in-law; Joe DeSisti.

Thomas “To-Key” is survived by the love of his life and companion, Amanda “Mandy” Johnson of Towanda, PA, son and daughter-in-law; Thomas “Tom” and Amy Shaffer of Lockwood, NY, daughters and sons-in-law; Rhonda and Kevin Liddick of Towanda, PA and Christel and Pete Snyder of Sayre, PA, grandchildren; Jamie, Christian, Lexus, Ashley, Russell, Paul, Aleisha, and Casey, great-grandchildren; Kaleb, Jackson, Ellie Mae, and Raevyn. He is also survived by his sisters; Roberta “Bobby” DeSisti of Sayre, PA and Betty “Sis” Gable of Waverly, NY, brothers and sisters-in-law; James “Jimmy” and June Shaffer of So. Waverly, PA, Les and Kathy Shaffer of Waverly, NY, and William “Cubby” and Cindy Shaffer of Sayre, PA, sisters and brothers-in-law; Marlene and Tom Quattrini of Sayre, PA, Grace and Paul Gardner of Salem, SC, and Shelley and Tyler Fraley of Athens, PA, brother; Dean Shaffer of Waverly, NY, uncle and aunt; Jim and Helen McCloe of Waverly, NY, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family may call on Friday, March 16, 2018 from 4pm-6pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral services will follow at the funeral home at 6pm with Fire Chaplain Linda Rogers officiating.

Burial will be in St. James Cemetery, Waverly, NY at the convenience of the family.
