Obituary of Doris G. Hunter

Doris G. Hunter, 94, of Sayre, PA, passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2018 at the Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Skilled Nursing Unit.

She was born on May 21, 1923 in Glencarin, NY, the daughter of the late Geroge H. and Ada B. (Cronkwrite) Laughlin.

Doris graduated from Waverly High School in 1941 and married Austin O. Hunter of Laquin, PA. They met at a dance. Austin asked his friends who that girl was, and they told him, Doris Laughlin, but she would never dance with him. Well, they were married on October 13, 1945 and resided in Sayre, PA. She is the mother of three children. One daughter, Charlotte Carroll, of North Redington Beach, FL, two sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight and Karen Hunter of South Waverly, PA and Dale and Sheron Hunter of Riverview, FL.

Doris formally worked as a sewing operator at Blue Swan Mills before marriage and also in later years. She enjoyed home-making, sewing, knitting, tatting, and crocheting.

She was predeceased by her husband, Austin O. Hunter on June 23, 2007, one brother, John T. Laughlin, two sisters, Gladys M. Shipman and Nellie B. Wolfe, and grandson, Brian Hunter.

Besides her daughter, 2 sons and daugthers-in-law, Doris is survived by 6 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, several step great-grandchildren and 2 step-great-great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews also survive her.

Doris’ two surviving friends, Dorothy Drake of Sayre, PA and Hilda McDonald of Sparta, MJ were always a special part of her life for 70 years. Since living at Hopkins Commons from Aug. 2013, Doris has other great friends, especially Bernice Bennett. We can’t thank her enough for all she has done.
