Obituary of Carol A. Merrill
Carol A. Merrill, 71, of Litchfield Twp., PA passed away at her home with her family by her side on Monday, April 2, 2018 following an extended illness.
She was born on July 12, 1946 in Elmira, NY, the daughter of the late George W. and Abbie Ann (Crompton) Saunders.
Carol loved spending time with her family. She loved camping, boating and spending time outside enjoying nature and watching the wildlife. Carol also enjoyed doing any type of craft and spent many hours making baskets for charitable organizations and items to send to the military serving overseas. She was a member of the Exclusive Happy Hookers Club, the Red Hat Society, and a past member of the Litchfield Volunteer Fire Company Auxiliary. Carol enjoyed reading and spending time with her cat, "CC", interpretation, "Carol's Cat".
She is predeceased by her brother; George W. Saunders II.
Carol is survived by her husband of 25 years; Stephen Merrill at home, special niece and her husband; Carol Louise, "her namesake" and Eddy Hayes of Candor, NY, nephew and his wife; George W. III and Kimberly Saunders of Sharon Springs, NY, great-niece; Kaitlyn "Bug" Hover of Candor, NY, great-nieces; Olivia, Ava, Madailein, and Georgie Saunders. She is also survived by her step-son; Randy Merrill of Waverly, NY, step-daughter and son-in-law; Mandy and Michael Shelp of Winterville, NC, mother-in-law; Jane Merrill of Athens, PA, brother-in-law and sister-in-law; Frank and Linda Merrill of Buies Creek, NC, sister-in-law and brother-in-law; Gail and David Arnold of Athens, PA, and several cousins.
Friends and family may call on Wednesday, April 4, 2018 from 4pm-6pm at the Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral Services will follow at the funeral home at 6pm with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating.
Burial will be in Nichols Cemetery at the convenience of the family.
