Obituary of Gayle Adams

Gayle L. Adams, 97, of Sayre, PA passed away on April 10, 2018 at the Sayre Health Care Center following a brief illness. He was born on April 5, 1921 in Sayre, PA, the son of the late Harold and Arlene (Leiby) Adams. Gayle attended and graduated from the Athens Schools and obtained his Engineering Degree from the University of Michigan. He was a Veteran of the US Air Force, serving during WWII as a 1st Class Lt. Fighter Pilot. Following his discharge from the military, he briefly worked for Sylvania in Towanda, then went to work as an Engineer at the Ingersoll-Rand, Athens, until his retirement. Gayle enjoyed bowling and especially golfing, even up until his early nineties. He was a former member of the Sayre ELKS, Waverly MOOSE, and a current member of the Masons. He served for many years on the Athens Borough Council both as a member and President. Gayle also served on the Athens Borough Zoning and Planning Commission. He will be greatly missed by his family and all those who knew and loved him, especially his "Sunday Night Supper Club". He is predeceased by his loving and caring wife of 70 years; Jean Donlon Adams, and his sister; Emily Lou Clause. Gayle is survived by his son; Dave Adams of Sayre, PA, daughter and son-in-law; Kathy and Dr. Richard Minielly of Conway, SC, granddaughters; Krista (Shawn) Crane of Pflugerville, TX, Stephanie (Kevin) Wilson of Austin, TX, grandson; John (Maureen) Tchinnis of Newark, DE, great-grandchildren; Storm and Alex Wilson and Katherine and Olivia Tchinnis; step-grandchildren; Robin (Rachel) Minielly and their children; Ian, Eva, Sadie, Cecily, and Matt Minielly, and several nieces and nephews. Following Gayle's wishes, there will be no calling hours or services at this time. A memorial service will be held at a later date. The family is being assisted by Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., Athens. Burial will be in the Sheshequin Cemetery, where Gayle and his beloved wife will be laid to rest together.
