Obituary of William John Randolph
William J. Randolph, Jr. died of natural causes on April 17, 2018. He was 93. Bill was born Oct. 15, 1924 in Trenton, NJ, and grew up in Waynesboro, PA, graduating from Waynesboro High in 1941 at 16.
He attended Penn State University, taking engineering courses. In 1943, he joined the Navy. After basic training, he was sent to engineering school at Cornell University, and to Notre Dame for Naval Officer training.
Bill served in the Navy through the end of WWII, rising to the rank of Lt., Jg. He went back to Cornell, earning a Mechanical Engineering Degree in 1947.
He married the former Joan M. Baker, of Sayre, PA in Oct. 1945. The couple had three sons.
Mr. Randolph worked as an Engineer at Bendix Aviation and Corning Glass Works near Elmira, NY before moving to South Charleston, WV in 1956 to become District Sales Manager for the Foxboro Instrument Company. In 1966, he moved his family to suburban Washington, DC to work for Control Data Corp. as NASA Sales Manager, being quickly promoted to Defense Dept. District Sales Manager. In the 1980’s, he went back to work for Foxboro in international sales out of their Baltimore, MD office.
Bill enjoyed fishing, boating, and hunting, as well as shooting skeet with his classic shotguns.
He is survived by his three sons, Bill, Jeff, and Bob, and four grandchildren.
Graveside services will be held on Monday, April 23 at 11:45am at Tioga Point Cemetery, 803 North Main Street, Athens, PA. Following the service, William will be laid to rest beside his wife of 67 years, Joan.
