Obituary of Phylis W. Callear

Phylis W. (Whipple) Callear, 83, of Athens, PA, passed away peacefully on Thursday, May 03, 2018 at Robert Packer Hospital, Sayre following a period of declining health.

She was born on September 18, 1934 in Sayre, PA, the daughter of the late Leland and Ettie (Converse) Whipple.

Phylis was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her family. She married Donald Callear on May 8, 1953 and was looking forward to celebrating their 65th anniversary together. She was a graduate of Athens High School. Following graduation and taking banking courses, Phylis was employed with Farmers Bank and continued working with Citizens and Northern after they purchased the bank. She held many positions within the bank and was the Assistant Vice President upon her retirement.

She enjoyed bowling, snowmobiling, camping, and swimming. The whole family enjoyed watching NASCAR Racing together and her favorite driver was Bobby Allison. Phylis loved spending time outdoors, and especially enjoyed watching the birds and butterflies. She also enjoyed visiting different lighthouses, reading about them, and collecting them. She was a member of the Athens United Methodist Church.

She is predeceased by her daughter, Terri Donlin, son, David Callear, and sister-in-law, Bonnie Whipple.

Phylis is survived by her beloved husband of 65 years, Donald at home, son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Nancy Callear of Athens, grandchildren, Heather Callear of Athens, PA, Clinton and Amanda Callear of Rome, PA, Lindsay and Mike Gorman of Charlotte, NC, Lesley and Joseph Morey of Chemung, NY, James and Caitlin Callear of Athens, PA, Hashley Callear of Litchfield, PA, and Craig Callear of Athens, PA, great-grandchildren, Emalie, Olivia, Mara, Makenna, Madilyn, Molly, Skyler, Ashley, Hannah, Nicholas, Issac, and Caleb. She is also survived by her brother, Leland Whipple of Montoursville, NY, sister, Marilyn Covey of FL, and several nieces and nephews.

Friends and family may call on Sunday, May 6, 2018 from 12pm-2pm at Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 2pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Linda Rogers officiating.

Burial will be in Bradford County Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.
