Obituary of Wayne S. Rogers

Wayne S. Rogers, 88, of Columbia Crossroads, PA, passed away with his family by his side on Thursday, May 03, 2018 at Bradford County Manor, Troy, following a period of declining health.

He was born on April 24, 1930 in Sayre, PA the son of the late Stanley and Genevieve (Kinner) Rogers.

Wayne graduated from Athens High School. While there, he played on the Future Farmers of America Basketball Team, where he was the "Middle Line Backer". Wayne was a Veteran of the US Army, serving during the Korean Conflict. He attended Diesel Technical School in Nashville, TN, obtaining his degree in auto mechanics. For many years, he worked in the Chevrolet garages in the area as a Mechanic. He then worked for the Ingersoll Rand in Athens, PA, until his retirement in 1992. He also loved farming and the outdoors. He spent many hours on the farm and hunting, which he enjoyed from the time he was young. He was an avid collector of old bottles, and enjoyed traveling with his wife, Marjorie. For many years, they traveled to the New England states to visit family, and one of his favorite places was Montana, where he took a trip with John von Hagn. Wayne liked watching Penn State Football and the Buffalo Bills. When it was game time, the challenges would begin as he was the Bills fan and Marjorie was the Cowboys fan.

He is predeceased by his great-grandson, Dominic Troccia and brother-in-law, Walter Ackley.

Wayne is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Marjorie at home, children and their spouses, Sabrina and Randy King of Wetona, PA, Reginald and Mary-Jo Rogers of Athens, PA, Desiree Rogers and Tom Sullivan of Elmira Heights, NY, and Melanie and George Webb of New Castle, DE, 15 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. and He is also survived by his sister, Rosemary Ackley of Sayre, PA, brothers and sisters-in-law, Edward and Jean Rogers of FL and Jack and Barbara Rogers of Litchfield, PA, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family may call on Friday, May 11, 2018 from 10am-12pm at Jay E. Lowery Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 225 South Main Street, Athens, PA. Funeral services will follow at 12pm at the funeral home with the Rev. Tim Robson officiating.

Burial will folllow at Bradford County Memorial Park, Luthers Mills, PA.
